With so many different brands of bathroom exhaust fans currently available on the market, it can be quite challenging to select one whose models are really going to suit your specific ventilation needs.

However, one of these brands can be genuinely considered a safe bet – Panasonic. Founded more than a century ago in Japan, this is one of the world’s most well-renowned consumer electronics brands and one whose products are held in high regard by homeowners all over the world.

For that matter, I’ve decided to take a closer look at Panasonic’s five most popular bathroom exhaust fans and help you determine whether this famous brand is the right choice for you. In this article, I will talk about:

  • The features of the most popular Panasonic bath fans;
  • How much does it cost to run one of them;
  • How quiet they are;

…and more. Let’s get started!

The Best Panasonic Bathroom Fan

Panasonic WhisperFit

Panasonic Whisperfit

Features:

  • Smartflow engine ensures optimal CFM output
  • Low-profile design for easy installation
  • Integrated Pick-A-Flow speed selector
  • Very quiet (0.3 – 0.8 Sones)
  • Energy Star-certified

While it’s not as feature-rich as some of the other Panasonic fans on the list, the WhisperFit is an amazing all-around option and an excellent choice for most homeowners.

High-performing and energy-efficient, this bathroom exhaust fan makes quick work of excess humidity and unpleasant smells. What is more, it stays whisper-quiet while doing so (the noise level never goes above 0.8 Sones).

Finally, its low profile and the Flex-Z Fast bracket allow fast and easy installation, while the Pick-A-Flow selector makes it extremely easy to choose the airflow speed – if you want to do it manually.

As its name suggests, this is the most budget-friendly Panasonic bathroom exhaust fan on my list.

It’s still a genuinely worthwhile purchase, though – it sports an extremely sleek design and it’s capable of removing humid air at three different speeds (50, 80, and 100 CFM).

The unit is also Energy Star-rated (and, therefore, energy-efficient) and has a low profile that ensures quick and easy installation. If you’re on a budget, this model is an excellent option.

Pros:

  • Pick-A-Flow speed selector
  • Sleek, low-profile design
  • Energy Star-rated
  • Budget-friendly

Cons:

  • Not as powerful as the rest of the models

Next up is Panasonic WhisperGreen, a well-made unit equipped with a 10-watt LED chip panel.

The model also has a 1-watt nightlight, whose purpose is to make those night trips to the bathroom a bit easier.

In terms of performance, this model is a beast. At its maximum speed – 110 CFM – it can quickly and efficiently remove humidity and unpleasant smells from a larger bathroom.

Pros:

  • Allows installation of condensation & motion sensors
  • Quiet in operation (0.3 – 0.9 Sones)
  • 10-watt LED chip panel
  • 1-watt nightlight

Cons:

  • Somewhat complicated to install

Panasonic WhisperSense

The WhisperSense is yet another of Panasonic’s premium-quality bath fans and one of the company’s bestsellers.

And there’s a good reason for that – it is very powerful, it stays quiet in operation, and it’s equipped with Panasonic’s proprietary Dual-Sensor Technology.

Basically, this is a combo of moisture and motion sensors that allow automatic odor and moisture control. There is also a Flex-Z Fast bracket – quick & hassle-free installation is guaranteed.

Pros:

  • Energy Star-rated
  • Humidity sensor
  • Motion sensor
  • Easy to install

Cons:

  • The motion sensor is a bit oversensitive

Panasonic WhisperWarm

Panasonic WhisperWarm bathroom exhaust fan

Specifications:

  • CFM rating: 50/80/110
  • Sones rating: 0.3 – 1.5
  • Dimensions: ‎22.28” x 15.25” x 12.25”

Due to the fact that it comes equipped with a heater, Panasonic WhisperWarm is the most expensive model on my list.

Besides this 1600W heater, the unit also has a SmartFlow motor that can operate at three different speeds – 50, 80, and 110 CFM. You can choose between the three settings with the built-in Pick-A-Flow speed selector.

This is also the “loudest” fan in the roundup, although I don’t really see its 1.5 Sones rating as a serious disadvantage. The model is still very quiet and won’t only remove humidity from your bathroom, but also warm it up.

Pros:

  • Equipped with a 1600W heater
  • Intelligent SmartFlow motor
  • Flex-Z Fast bracket
  • Relatively quiet

Cons:

  • Expensive

I consider Panasonic WhisperFit to be the best out of all of the company’s bathroom exhaust fans for a couple of good reasons.

While not as feature-rich as the model described above – WhisperWarm – this particular unit is also not as expensive. It’s an excellent all-around venting appliance with a low profile and three different working speeds. It provides a genuinely noise-free operation.

If you’re unable to decide which one of these fans is the best choice for you, go with this one – it’s a safe bet in every sense of that term.

Pros:

  • An excellent all-around Panasonic bath fan
  • SmartFlow motor with 3 different speeds
  • Low profile ensures easy installation
  • The quietest model on the list

Cons:

  • No extra features

About Panasonic Corporation

Established all the way back in 1918 in Osaka, Japan, Panasonic started out as a lightbulb socket manufacturer.

Today, it is one of the most well-known consumer electronics brands in the world, with a yearly sales revenue of around $70 billion. The company offers a wide spectrum of products, ranging from electronics gadgets to industrial, avionic, and automotive systems.

Recently, the company has teamed up with Tesla to produce and sell solar panels and rechargeable battery cells.

What are Panasonic Bathroom Exhaust Fans?

Black bathroom exhaust fan

The bathroom exhaust fans made by Panasonic are premium-quality venting appliances designed to eliminate excess humidity and keep unpleasant odors at bay. They’re among the best-selling devices of this type on today’s market.

Just like in the case of models made by the other manufacturers of bath fans, the units made by Panasonic are available in a variety of sizes and with different sets of features.

In terms of performance, most of their fans are situated in the 50 – 110 CFM range, with a lot of models being capable of removing moisture at a couple of different speeds.

If this is the first time you’re shopping for one of these convenient appliances, I would recommend buying a bathroom exhaust fan whose CFM rating won’t be below 50.

Also, make sure to check out my CFM sizing chart – it will help you get a perfect exhaust fan for your bathroom.

Are Panasonic Bathroom Fans Efficient?

One of the best things about the bathroom exhaust fans made by Panasonic is that they’re equipped with high-quality electrically-commutated motors (ECMs). These engines exhaust more air while consuming less energy.

Another thing worth pointing out here is that Panasonic’s ECMs are 4-pole DC & AC motors. And due to this 4-pole construction, they also run quite a bit smoother than the engines found in cheaper bathroom exhaust fans.

Furthermore, they are far more energy-efficient and do not create as much noise. If you’d like your bathroom exhaust fan to consume as little energy as possible while staying whisper-quiet in operation, Panasonic is probably the best brand out there.

How Much Does it Cost to Run a Panasonic Bathroom Fan?

Colorful bathroom

If you’ve decided to get yourself a bath fan made by Panasonic but you’re not sure how much it would cost to run one of these appliances over a year, you’ll be pleased to hear that there’s a rather simple calculation that can help you find the answer.

The first thing you’ll need to do is to find out the wattage of the particular model you’re looking to buy. For example, Panasonic WhisperFit – my number #1 pick – is a 25-watt bathroom exhaust fan.

In comparison, older venting appliances made by Broan-NuTone and other brands use as much as whopping 250 watts. In other words, they consume 10 times more electricity than these ultra-modern, energy-efficient Panasonic units.

If we convert 25 watts to kilowatt-hours, we’re going to get 0.6 kWhs – that’s how much electricity this particular Panasonic model uses during one day. And if we multiply this number by 365, we’ll see that WhisperFit consumes 219 kWh during one year.

In the United States, the average cost of one kWh is around $0.10. In other words, running Panasonic WhisperFit non-stop for 365 days would cost you about $22 a year.  See our guide to bathroom fan electricity use for more information.

Of course, nobody keeps a bathroom exhaust fan on at all times, which means that running this appliance would cost you even less on a yearly basis.

What is SmartFlow Technology?

As I mentioned above, Panasonic equips its bathroom exhaust fans with ECMs – electrically-commutated motors. These engines are capable of adjusting the air-removing speed on the fly, which is yet another thing that makes them so energy-efficient.

The Panasonic bathroom exhaust fans sporting the company’s proprietary SmartFlow technology are especially good at this. Whenever it detects static pressure, a fan using SmartFlow technology will speed up automatically.

In other words, homeowners whose venting ducts are long and full of bends don’t have to worry about their Panasonic fans never achieving the target CFM – these machines can speed up on their own.

Are Panasonic Bathroom Fans Quiet?

Renovated bathroom

The Sones rating of most Panasonic bathroom exhaust fans is around 1.0. In other words, this company’s venting appliances are very quiet.

One of the main reasons behind this is the fact that Panasonic often equips its venting appliances with larger blower wheels. These allow the fans to work at a higher RPM – and, therefore, move more air – while still staying quiet in operation.

In simple terms, the smaller this blower wheel is, the more noise it will create (and move less air).

All in all, it’s pretty safe to say that Panasonic’s bathroom exhaust fans are among the quietest on the market – they don’t have “Whisper” in their names for no reason.

What are Sones?

The amount of noise a ventilation appliance creates is rated in Sones.

The lower the Sones rating of a particular bathroom exhaust fan is, the quieter it will be – it’s as simple as that. Models that are rated at around 1.0 Sones are considered very quiet.

Of course, there are also some very noisy (4.0 Sones and higher) bath fans available on the market, although these are mostly used for commercial purposes. Read our post on bathroom exhaust fan sones for more information.

Noise Complaints

In the bathroom exhaust fans industry, one of the biggest homeowner complaints concerns the noise that these devices create. And even though I’ve just said that Panasonic’s models are some of the quietest on the market, they are not immune to the aforementioned complaints.

When the company tests their units for loudness, they do it in ideal environments. So, if you get a Panasonic bath fan that is recommended to be used with a 4” duct, and you decide to use it with a 3” duct instead, your appliance is almost certainly going to create more noise than it should.

There is also the question of how and where your ventilation duct is installed. To verify that there’s good airflow, turn on your exhaust fan, go outside, and thoroughly inspect the exterior cover of the duct.

Another thing worth mentioning here is that ducts that are very long and have too many bends almost always contribute to the overall amount of noise created by the fan.

For example, if your ventilation duct is 30 feet long and has several 90-degree bends, your bathroom exhaust fan will almost certainly produce more noise than advertised.

To reach the advertised rating – whether it’s 0.3 or 1.5 Sones – it is crucially important to match the duct size recommendation. Most modern Panasonic bath fans require the use of a 4” or 6” duct. If you want a bathroom fan that doesn’t make much noise, check out our pick for the quietest bathroom exhaust fan.
